It was a sight to behold when Virat Kohli broke Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s record of most ODI centuries. Virat Kohli with his 117 runs knock against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium has broken Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most number of ODI centuries. The entire Wankhede Stadium went crazy when India’s chase master chased down Sachin’s yet another record.
Wankhede Stadium is also blessed with Sachin Tendulkar’s presence for the semi-final encounter against New Zealand. Along with the Wankhede Crowd, Sachin Tendulkar also rose from his place to applaud Virat Kohli’s effort. Sachin Tendulkar was happy to watch Virat’s magnificent performance. Virat Kohli also reciprocated with a bow-down gesture from the field right after his century celebration was over.
Virat chasing Sachin Tendulkar’s record
Virat Kohli took 279 innings to complete his 50th ODI century while Sachin Tendulkar scored his 49th ODI century in his 451st innings in his ODI career. Virat’s century journey began against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens in his 14th game. Virat is also chasing Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 international century record as he is now just 20 away from the record. This was Virat’s 80th international century, with 50th in ODI, 29th in Tests, and one in T20I format.

Virat Kohli has also breached Sachin’s ‘Mt. 673’ in the World Cup. Virat also became the first-ever batter to go past the 700 mark in one edition. Virat needed 80 runs to break Sachin Tendulkar’s record but he scored 37 more to make another batting record. Sachin Tendulkar scored 673 runs in World Cup 2003 where India played in the World Cup final against Australia but got a crushing defeat. Virat Kohli has scored 711 runs so far in the ongoing tournament.
Team India have posted 397 runs on the board and gave New Zealand a mammoth 398 runs to qualify for the World Cup final in Ahmedabad. India have taken a step forward for the glorious World Cup title. Virat Kohli (117) and Shreyas Iyer (105) scored centuries while Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 80. Time Southee was the leading wicket-taker but also conceded 100 runs for the New Zealand. India scored 110 runs in the final 10 overs.
