India's tour of South Africa 2024
"Dream come true," Sai Sudharsan reacts to maiden India ODI call-up

B Sai Sudharsan has earned maiden India ODI call-up for the South Africa tour.
Young Tamil Nadu batter B Sai Sudharsan expressed joy at being included in the India ODI squad for the upcoming South Africa tour. The BCCI announced the India squads for the all-format tour of rainbow nation on November 30.
They have kept the same T20I team that is currently playing Australia with a few additions and have made a few changes to the Test squad based on the West Indies series. The ODI team has been bolstered by the addition of three uncapped hitters, Rajat Patidar, Rinku Singh and Sai Sudarshan, the latter receiving his first India ODI call-up.
India will face South Africa in a three-match One-Day International series from December 17 to 21.
B Sai Sudharsan grabbed the spotlight with his exploits in the IPL for Gujarat Titans, including a knock of 96 in the IPL 2023 final against Chennai Super Kings. Even for his domestic side Tamil Nadu, the young opener has been a brilliant performer and he even scored a ton in the recent emerging nations Asia Cup.
“It is a great feeling, and I am a bit lost for words”- B Sai Sudharsan on maiden India call-up
At the moment, the 22-year-old is playing in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tournament. He hammered 125 against Goa recently. In his initial reaction to the selection, Sai Sudarshan has expressed disbelief, stating that making it to the Indian squad has been a dream come true.
“It is a great feeling, and I am a bit lost for words. It is a dream come true for me, but at the same time, this is just the beginning, and there are many areas where I need to improve,” Sudarshan was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Sai Sudharsan’s performance in India’s domestic circuit and IPL secured him a contract with Surrey for the final three games of the County Championship 2023, which he featured in September.
“I learnt a lot playing in all these tournaments, and the exposure it has given me has helped me improve as a batter. But my first goal is to just focus on my match tomorrow (Friday) against Punjab and help the team qualify for the knockouts,” the Chennai-born cricketer concluded.
