[Watch] Impact of toss tampering talk? Sam Curran checks coin vs Mumbai Indians
Immediately after the coin fell down, Sam Curran went to check it.
At the Wankhede Stadium, during last week’s 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) match between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), a video of the coin toss began circulating. MI skipper Hardik Pandya flipped the coin over his head which landed behind both captains and officials present for the toss. Match referee Javagal Srinath retrieved it by passing beside them. Some fans on social media suspected that he had manipulated with it, but there was no concrete proof for such an allegation.
A couple of days later, Faf du Plessis reignited the conversation during RCB’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Prior to the toss, Du Plessis had a discussion with SRH captain Pat Cummins where he appeared to be relaying the incident from MI’s toss and left Cummins looking astonished.
There was no official announcement from either the IPL or the franchises, but it appears that they have acknowledged the conversations happening on social media.

In Thursday’s encounter between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings in Chandigarh, the coin toss was closely monitored by cameras as Sam Curran spun it. Interestingly, this has been a rare moment during this season of the IPL. Upon revealing the result, which Curran also verified himself, Punjab Kings won the toss and elected to bowl first.
