He was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders for a price of INR 24.75 crore, while his fellow countryman Pat Cummins begged for a deal of INR 20.5 crore. Just like UP’s batter Sameer Rizvi, who got a massive deal of INR 8.4 crore from the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2024 auction.
Who is Sameer Rizvi?
Hailing from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, 20-year-old batsman Sameer Rizvi surprised everyone when three IPL franchises went after him. Sameer Rizvi was registered with a base price of INR 20 lakh. CSK started the bid, and the Gujarat Titans jumped into it. GT pulled out after the big crossed the 7-crore mark. But then, it was the Delhi Capitals that also came in.
After an intense bidding war, it was CSK who eventually acquired the 20-year-old for a price of INR 8.4 crore, making him the most expensive uncapped Indian player in the ongoing auction. Rizvi is known for his power-hitting middle-order batter. He ended the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2023/24 as the highest run scorer for UP. Rizvi showed his full potential in the UP T20 League.
He scored two incredible tons for the Kanpur Superstars and scored 455 runs in nine matches in the UP T20 League earlier this year. Recently, he scored 277 runs in SMAT 2023-24 in just 7 innings at an average and strike rate of 69.25 and 139.89, respectively. The 20-year-old also earned a trial for three IPL franchises, including the Punjab Kings. He is surely a prospect for the future who can be one of the emerging players in the IPL 2024.
