Sanjay Bangar roped in as Punjab Kings' Head of Cricket Development ahead of IPL 2024
Sanjay Bangar was part of the Punjab Kings camp for three years in IPL from 2014 to 2016.
Former Indian all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has been appointed as the new head of cricket development of IPL franchise Punjab Kings. It will be his second tenure with the Punjab Kings (Previously Kings XI Punjab). He worked with PBKS from IPL 2014 as an assistant coach. He was also promoted as head coach of the team and Punjab got their best finish in the league so far. Punjab Kings finished second in the table and finished as runners-up in the IPL 2024.
Sanjay said in a media release that Punjab currently have a good core of players and he is privileged to join the PBKS squad. Bangar said, “It’s my privilege to be with the Punjab Kings again. We have a good core of players as evidenced by the fact that we have the lowest number of player releases this year. The challenge is to give the squad the best support possible during and after the season to make the team stronger and deliver success.”
Punjab Kings welcome Sanjay Bangar
PBKS CEO Satish Menon also welcomed the development and said that the franchise will benefit from Bangar’s ability to build relationships across the squad. Satish Menon said, “Sanjay is an experienced coach and has great credentials. Over the season and beyond we will leverage his ability to build relationships across the squad.” Bangar served as PBKS head coach in two IPL seasons in 2015 and 2016.
PBKS also posted a welcome message on their social media post and tweeted, “We are delighted to announce the return of our sher, Sanjay Bangar as the new Head of Cricket Development at Punjab Kings. Mr. Bangar brings a wealth of experience and expertise to our organisation, and we are confident that under his leadership, our cricket development programs will reach new heights.” Punjab are waiting for their maiden IPL title.
Sanjay Bangar had to leave the IPL job as he was inducted into the Indian team support staff led by head coach Anil Kumble. Bangar joined the Indian cricket setup in 2016 and served as a batting consultant. Bangar also served as India’s interim coach when Anil Kumble resigned from his post after Champions Trophy 2017.
