Did Sanjiv Goenka and Rishabh Pant’s relationship get sour after the batter’s trade? Know here
Rishabh Pant returned to Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2027
The Indian Premier League (IPL) trade window has started bringing some major changes ahead of the 2027 season, with franchises looking to make changes to their squads. Player trades can also change the balance of the team, especially when experienced players are involved, as franchises are looking to build stronger squads for the next season.
Delhi Capitals (DC) have also made a major move ahead of IPL 2027. The franchise bought back one of their former star players after a big trade with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG)
Rishabh Pant, who started his IPL career with DC, will now return to the franchise after playing two seasons for LSG. Pant joined LSG for a record Rs. 27 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
He was also made the captain of the side after replacing KL Rahul. However, things did not go as planned for Pant during his two seasons in Lucknow.
Pant and LSG have now gone their separate ways, but LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka has made it clear that their relationship has not ended.

Sanjiv Goenka appeared on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast and was asked about his last conversation with Rishabh Pant before the trade to Delhi Capitals.
The LSG owner said that their conversation was not only about the trade and revealed that both still speak even after Pant left the franchise.
“Our last conversation wasn’t just about the trade. We have continued to speak even after that,” Goenka said.
He also wished Pant well for his next chapter and revealed that they could meet for dinner in the future.
“Good luck to him and best wishes. We plan to have dinner one of these days,” Goenka added.
“I’m very fond of him…. He has innocence about him” – Sanjiv Goenka on Rishabh Pant
Goenka also described Pant’s off-field personality in warm terms.
“I’m very fond of him. He has an innocence about him. He is almost childlike. He can come and hold you from behind with love, just like a child would. He can also come from anywhere and prank you. That’s the kind of person he is,” Goenka said.
Pant also had a difficult time with the bat during his two seasons with LSG. He scored 269 runs in IPL 2025 before scoring 312 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2026. The 2026 season was disappointing for LSG as they were able to win only 4 games out of 14 and finished at the bottom of the points table.
After two seasons with LSG, Pant has now returned to Delhi Capitals in a trade deal. He moved to DC for Rs. 15 crore, while Kuldeep Yadav joined LSG for Rs. 13.5 crore.
