Scotland will host Australia for a T20I series for the first time.
Cricket Scotland has announced the squad for the upcoming three-game T20I series against Australia on August 14, 2024. The matches will be the first for Australia’s men in Scotland since 2013, when the sides played an ODI at The Grange, with the visitors winning.
Richie Berrington will lead an experienced 17-member side in the forthcoming home series against Australia. The visit by Australia, a full member nation, will allow Scotland to put their skills to the test and demonstrate them at the greatest level.
Three T20 internationals will be played between the teams at The Grange in Edinburgh on September 4, 6, and 7, ahead of Australia’s match against England later in the month.
“It’s fantastic to have this home series to look forward to later in the summer, which should be a treat for all our supporters. I was fortunate enough to play in the Scotland side when Australia last visited in 2013, and although the result didn’t go our way that day, it was a tremendous occasion to be part of. Our players always relish the opportunity to test themselves against the best sides in the world, and we’ve shown good form in this World Cup so far, so I’m sure it’ll be an exciting and competitive series,” Scotland captain Richie Berrington had said when the series was announced in June.
Australia had narrowly managed to eke out Scotland in the recent T20 World Cup 2024 as well.
“The goal for us is to win this series”- Doug Watson, Scotland Men’s Head Coach
On Wednesday, 14th August, Scotland men’s squad for the T20I series against Australia got announced. All fifteen players chosen for this summer’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup are available to participate in the series, and they are joined by recent newcomers Charlie Cassell and Jasper Davidson in a seventeen-man side.
“I’m hugely excited. It’s a wonderful opportunity to play one of the best teams in the world, and I’m pretty sure that our players won’t need any motivation for this series. It’s a great opportunity for them to share the field with world-class players. They want to put in some huge performances and compete, and really push this Australia team.
I think the key thing is the guys are really competing for places. I’ve got to mention Oli Hairs, who didn’t play at the World Cup, but then made that brilliant 255 for Scotland “A” against Oman. It truly was a fantastic inning, he hit the ball so well, and it was so good to see him at his best.
The goal for us is to win this series. The first game is really important – if we can win that, it’ll set up the next two matches. The whole week will be brilliant for the squad, staff, supporters, and all of Scotland,” Doug Watson, Scotland Men’s Head Coach, told Cricket Scotland website.
Scotland Squad: Richie Berrington (C), Charlie Cassell, Matthew Cross, Bradley Currie, Jasper Davidson, Chris Greaves, Oli Hairs, Jack Jarvis, Michael Jones, Michael Leask, Brandon McMullen, George Munsey, Safyaan Sharif, Chris Sole, Charlie Tear, Mark Watt, Bradley Wheal
