Shashank Singh walked off the field after an injury in MI vs PBKS clash of IPL 2026.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, started with Punjab dominating the first few overs, with Arshdeep Singh taking two wickets in consecutive balls, dismissing Ryan Rickelton and Suryakumar Yadav. This match is important for Mumbai as they look to bounce back from a poor start to the tournament.

MI won their inaugural game of the season by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but after that, they suffered three consecutive losses. They had a very crumbling start to this match against the Kings, losing early wickets, while PBKS also missed a few chances, including dropped catches and missed run-outs.

The PBKS are playing well despite these missed opportunities. However, one of the throws by their captain, Shreyas Iyer, while attempting to make a direct hit at the stumps, missed the target and struck their teammate Shashank Singh on the head.

Shashank Singh was struck on the head by the bounce of the ball while backing away from a throw made by Shreyas Iyer. There was a brief delay in the game as the physio came onto the field to assess his condition.

Shashank then walked off the ground for further evaluation and treatment. This could have been a significant blow for the PBKS if the injury would have proved to be serious.

Shashank has a big role in the PBKS, playing the role of a finisher, but more than that, he is often promoted whenever the team requires him to fire up the order. In the last game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he was even given a chance to bowl, and he ended up taking two big wickets in an over.

He later entered the ground again looking fitter, with no major injury scare, and was given the ball straight away by the captain, Iyer. Once again proving his worth, Shashank took a wicket in his first over, dismissing Naman Dhir and breaking a big partnership.

How did Shashank get injured?

Shashank got injured when he was struck on the head by a bouncing ball while backing away from a throw made by Shreyas Iyer.
