Sherfane Rutherford traded to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans ahead of IPL 2026 auction

West Indies cricketer Sherfane Rutherford has been officially traded to Mumbai Indians (MI) from Gujarat Titans (GT) ahead of the next edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This move has come ahead of IPL 2026 auction that will be held on December 16.

Sherfane Rutherford was moved from GT to MI for INR 2.6 crores, according to an official statement from the IPL Governing Council on Thursday, November 13.

“West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford is set to represent the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL 2026 season following a successful trade from the Gujarat Titans (GT). Acquired by GT for a fee of INR 2.6 crore, Rutherford will move to MI at his existing fee. The 27-year-old has featured in 44 T20Is for the West Indies and holds the record for the highest sixth-wicket partnership in T20Is, having stitched together a 139-run stand with Andre Russell against Australia in Perth.

“Rutherford has played 23 IPL matches so far, having earlier represented Delhi Capitals in 2019 and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2022. He was part of the MI squad in 2020 and the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2024, but did not feature in the playing XI during those seasons,” the IPL governing council stated.

Sherfane Rutherford has played 23 games in the IPL, scoring 397 runs at an average of 24.81 at a strike rate of 137.37. He previously played for Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. But, he got the most chances in the Gujarat Titans, playing 13 games and scoring 291 runs with a best score of 46 and strike rate of 157.29 as the finisher.

Notably, Sherfane Rutherford was part of MI squad that won the IPL in 2020 in Dubai.
