Shubman Gill completes 3000 runs in IPL; Becomes second fastest Indian to do so

Shubman Gill took 94 innings to complete 3000 runs in the IPL.

Shubman Gill is arguably the number 1 young batter for India. The young batter has gone from strength to strength after guiding India to an U-19 World Cup win in 2018. Since then, the classy youngster has shown his skill time to time as an international Indian batter. Fans and analysts regard him as the torchbearer of Indian batting line up in the future after Virat Kohli’s retirement.

Gill has all the shots in the book. He has shown his ability to build the innings and finish off games for his team with maturity. Whenever he takes on the crease, he has class oozing out from all the shots that he plays on the cricket field.

Shubman Gill completes 3000 IPL runs

Ahead of IPL 2024, Shubman Gill was entrusted with the extra responsibility to lead his IPL team Gujarat Titans. Hardik Pandya led GT to an IPL win in 2022 and to the final in 2023. However, he moved to Mumbai Indians ahead of ongoing season.

So, Shubman Gill had important shoes to fill in and take the leadership mettle for the first time. He was having rough time with the bat for quite some time due to the inconsistent performances and scores with the bat. Gill was mostly struggling in T20 and test formats of the game.

In the start of IPL 2024, he did not have good outing with the bat. However, against Punjab Kings, Gill played a captain’s knock of 89 runs off 48 balls and returned back to form. During GT’s sixth game of the season, against Rajasthan Royals, Shubman Gill completed a career milestone as he crossed 3000-run mark in the IPL.

In the process, he became 16th Indian batter and overall 24th batter to score 3000 or more runs in the IPL. He achieved the fear in 94 innings, becoming the second fastest Indian batter to reach the feat. KL Rahul, who took only 80 innings, is the fastest among Indian batters to reach to 3000 IPL runs. Overall, Chris Gayle holds the record, who achieved the feat in 75 innings.
