Rishabh Pant managed only seven runs in the first innings for India B against India A.

Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant had a forgettable return to red-ball cricket as he managed only seven runs in his first outing in the Duleep Trophy 2024. Shubman Gill took a terrific catch while running backwards from mid-off to send Pant packing.

On Thursday, the Duleep Trophy got underway. India B took on India A at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Pant is playing for India B against India A in his first outing in red-ball cricket since his car accident in December 2022. For now, he has one game to make a case for a return to the Indian test team. The BCCI selectors are expected to announce India’s squad for the two-match test series against Bangladesh after the first round of matches in the Duleep Trophy.

Rishabh Pant fails to land his helicopter shot, Gill takes a jaw-dropping catch

Batting at number 5, with his team already in trouble at 80/3, Pant played a helicopter shot to a length delivery from pacer Akash Deep, who was bowling from round the wicket to cut down the angle and not give the left-hander room to free his hands on the offside.

Pant aimed for the legside boundary but mistimed his stroke. The ball took the leading edge and went down the ground over Gill, who was at mid-off. Gill, the India A captain, ran backwards while also keeping his eyes on the ball.

He put in a dive and caught the ball brilliantly as he went down on the ground. As he took one tumble, Gill threw the ball in the air in celebration.
