Shubman Gill was all set to captain North Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2025-26.

Indian Cricket Team test captain Shubman Gill is all set to miss the upcoming Duleep Trophy 2025-26. As per the reports in Cricbuzz, the right-hander is unwell and is deemed unfit to take part in the inter-zonal tournament, which will begin on 28th August in Bengaluru.

Shubman Gill was appointed as the captain of the North Zone team and was expected to play the opening game. After the first match, he would’ve anyway left the squad as he has been picked in the Indian team for Asia Cup 2025, which will commence on 9th September.

The reports claimed that the medical team recently examined Shubman Gill and gave a report to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which stated that the Indian test skipper is unwell. He is currently at his home in Chandigarh and is resting.

The selectors of the North Zone had an idea about Shubman Gill’s absence from Duleep Trophy 2025-26 and had already made arrangements for a replacement. In his place, Shubham Rohilla was added to the team. Vice-captain Ankit Kumar will now be leading the North Zone in the tournament.

Shubman Gill had a sensational time with the bat in the series against England. The batter produced the best series of his career as he slammed 754 runs in five games. He also hammered four tons, out of which one of the double centuries (269), which is his highest test score.

The captaincy of the Indian test team also sat well with him. Under his leadership, the team completed a 2-2 draw, winning games at Edgbaston in Birmingham and at the Oval in London.

Shubman Gill’s rich vein of form tempted selectors to pick him in the T20I team for Asia Cup 2025. Not only this, he was also named as the vice-captain of the side, which gives a massive hint that he is in the plans of the selectors to be named as the all-format captain.

Shubman Gill will be key for India in Asia Cup 2025. In the last three seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has been sensational. It remains to be seen where the bat will be in the tournament.
