India had a dominating day four of SL vs IND first Test.
India marched towards victory on the fourth day of the first Test at Galle International Stadium in Galle against Sri Lanka. After a massive first-innings lead of 178 runs, India had a decent outing in the second innings with the bat, and the, with the ball, they put Sri Lanka under pressure.
India didn’t have an ideal start to their second innings as Yashasvi Jaiswal bagged a two-ball duck. However, KL Rahul (35) and Devdutt Padikkal (44) continued their good form and displayed another exhibition of high-class batting.
The Rahul-Padikkal duo added 65 runs for the second wicket that put India in the driver’s seat. Sri Lanka made a strong comeback after that and picked wickets at regular intervals.
But Rishabh Pant (66) counter-attacked the Sri Lankan bowlers and ensured that India took a lead of over 300. Thanks to his heroics, India posted 193, setting a target of 372.
It was the worst possible start for Sri Lanka in their chase as they lost four quick wickets including that of Pasinda Sooriyabandara, who came as a concussion substitute for Dinesh Chandimal and got out for a duck.
With the team reeling at 47 for four, captain Dhananjaya de Silva (31*) and Sonal Dinusha (25*) joined hands and brought the innings back on track, adding 37 runs for the fifth wicket.
The Silva-Dinusha pair ensured that Sri Lanka didn’t lose any more wickets, ending the day at 84 for four, needing 288 runs more for a win.
