No Faf Du Plessis as South Africa announce 15-man squad for ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Aiden Markram will lead South Africa in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has announced their 15-man initial squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which is to be played in the West Indies and USA from June. Aiden Markram will lead the side. However, under his leadership the Proteas had a poor run in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup in Australia, where they couldn’t reach the semi-finals.
In a surprising turn of events, former SA T20 captain Temba Bavuma hasn’t been included, while speedster Lungi Ngidi and aggressive top-order batter Rilee Rossouw are also excluded from the initial 15-man squad for the upcoming tournament. All three players were included in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Ngidi will travel as a reserve along with young pacer Nandre Burger.
After a nine-month injury layoff, fast bowler Anrich Nortje has returned to the South African squad. Currently, he is taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for the Delhi Capitals.
Gerlad Coetzee, who had a dream run in the ODI World Cup 2023 with the ball, also has been added in the South Africa squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be his first ever T20 World Cup. Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen have also been named in the initial squad for South Africa.
Left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin, along with experienced spinners Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shasmi, have also been included in the 15-member SA squad. Whereas two young stars of the SA20 league, Ryan Rickelton and Ottniel Baartman, who had performed consistently in the tournament, have also been picked for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
South Africa squad for the T20 World Cup:
Aiden Markram (c), Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Tristan Stubbs, Ryan Rickelton, Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Bjorn Fortuin, Anrich Nortje, Gerald Coetzee, Tabraiz Shamsi, and Ottniel Baartman
Travelling Reserves: Lungi Ngidi, Nandre Burger
