South Africa will face Afghanistan and Ireland in the United Arab Emirates.
While resting several first-choice players, Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named new-looking squads for the upcoming white-ball matches against Afghanistan and Ireland later this month. The board has provided opportunities to some new cricketers in order to prepare for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
The Proteas will play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan from September 18 to September 22 in Sharjah.
After the conclusion of Afghanistan ODIs, South Africa will face Ireland in a two-match T20I series starting on September 27 in Abu Dhabi. After the T20Is, both nations will face each off in a three-match ODI series from September 29 to October 4 in Abu Dhabi.
Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen, Tabraiz Shamsi, Gerald Coetzee, David Miller, and Heinrich Klaasen have been rested for the entire tour to the UAE.
All-rounder Jason Smith, who made his T20I debut in the West Indies in August, has earned his maiden ODI call-up.
Veteran speedster Lungi Ngidi, who suffered a right calf injury during the West Indies tour, has been added to all three squads. Youngster Kwena Maphaka misses out from the tour due to his school examinations.
Aiden Markram and Reeza Hendricks will play ODIs against Afghanistan but not against Ireland. Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton will feature in the ODIs against Ireland only.
