Subramaniam Badrinath said every CSK player tried to avoid eye contact with MS Dhoni after seeing the CSK skipper furious with the loss.
Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath revealed that legendary cricketer MS Dhoni, who is known as ‘Captain Cool’, lost his cool after CSK suffered a defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008.
Dhoni is known for his calmness even amidst nervy situations in a cricket match. The cricketing world has admired Dhoni’s composure under high pressure. He is eulogised for dealing with both wins and losses with equanimity.
MS Dhoni kicked a water bottle in front of me: Subramaniam Badrinath
Former India batter Badrinath recalled an incident when CSK suffered a defeat against RCB in a low-scoring game at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai in IPL 2008.
Badrinath revealed that after Chennai lost the match, Dhoni was frustrated and let his angry emotions flow in the dressing room.
Badrinath opened up that when he got out against Anil Kumble and came into the dressing room, Dhoni kicked a water bottle in frustration. Badrinath added that everyone tried to avoid eye contact with the then-CSK captain.
“In this match against RCB in Chennai, we were chasing 110 odd. We lost wickets in a hurry, and we ended up losing the match. It was one of those matches where we couldn’t get 110 against RCB in Chepauk,” Badrinath said in an interview with InsideSports.
“I got out to a lap shot against Anil Kumble. I got myself LBW. He was coming inside the dressing room (MS Dhoni) and I was standing right there and there was a small water bottle in front of me and MS just kicked it out of the park, and I was oh my god! We were all trying to avoid eye contact with him in that dressing room,” Badrinath added.
Coming to match, RCB’s Rahul Dravid played a crucial knock of 47 runs off 39 deliveries, which helped his side reach 126. CSK’s Albie Morkel took four wickets.
While chasing 127, CSK opener Stephen Fleming scored 45 runs, but his knock went in vain as his side lost by 14 runs. Anil Kumble scalped three wickets.
