IPL 2023: Sunil Gavaskar wants DC to sack David Warner and handover captaincy to Axar Patel

Delhi Capitals had a poor start to their IPL 2023 campaign. They lost 5 back to back games before winning their first game. Delhi have now got 4 points in the table with a win over KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad each. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, opening batter David Warner was given the leadership role for the IPL 2023. Pant had suffered a massive accident in December last year. Warner had a great season with the bat, but his team has disappointed him in the season so far. Now, Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has asked Delhi Capitals to sack David Warner.

Sunil Gavaskar wants Axar Patel to lead Delhi Capitals

Legendary Indian batter, Sunil Gavaskar has batted for Axar Patel to be named as captain of Delhi Capitals. Sunil Gavaskar has given the logic behind his suggestion. According to him, Axar as a leader will benefit Indian cricket. Talking on a post-match show on Star Sports, He said, “I believe Axar Patel should be appointed as the captain of Delhi Capitals. He is an honest player. He is in a good rhythm. The Indian Cricket team can benefit from him being named the captain of the franchise, he is performing well and all these things should be done for a longer run”. Axar is second highest wicket-taker (6 wickets) and second-highest run-scorer (182) for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023.

Captain David Warner is the third leading run scorer in the IPL 2023 with 306 runs in 7 innings for DC. Apart from Warner, no DC batter has turned up well this season. This is one of the main reasons behind Delhi’s continuous failure in this season. DC is placed 10th with 4 points in 7 games. Delhi have won just two and have lost 5 games consecutively to begin their season. Slowly DC are getting their confidence back with two back-to-back close wins. Warner is hopeful that his team will lift the title like MI did after losing the first 5 games. Axar won the Player of the Match award against SRH.
