Sunday didn't go as expected for Team India as they suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Australia to suffered yet another loss in the ICC final. Starting the fifth day of the World Test Championship 2023 final, needing 280 more runs to get with seven wickets in hand, India were bundled out in just one season, handing over the championship to Australia by a massive win margin of 209 runs.
Chasing a massive target of 444, India ended the fourth day in a decent position at 164/3, with Virat Kohli batting on 44 and looking set to get big scores. He and Ajinkya Rahane added 71 runs for the fourth wicket on Day 4. But the former Indian skipper got out on a wide delivery outside off-stump, after adding just give runs to his overnight score. WTC Final 2023: "It's was an ordinary shot"- Sunil Gavaskar slams Virat Kohli on playing rash shots
With this loss, the dream of India winning an ICC tournament shattered once again. Well, it didn't go well with many former Indian cricketers, cricket pundits, and fans. Former Indian legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar looked disappointed and slammed Virat Kohli and team India for their batting failure on the final day of the game. In the discussion on Star Sports after the loss, Gavaskar spoke about Indian batting failure.
He said that Virat played a bad shot when team needed him the most. He also criticised the whole batting department when some of the batters got out playing bad shots. Gavaskar said, "The batting was in shambles today. It was just ridiculous what we saw today. The shot making, we saw some pretty ordinary shot yesterday from Pujara. And today some of the shots that we saw. How do you expect a win?"
There were high hopes before the start of the fifth day that if Virat and Rahane could survive the morning session, then India could try for a win. But the story ended with a completely opposite script. Now, India will wait for the 2023 ODI World Cup to try and end this ICC Trophy drought.
