Former Indian opening batter Sunil Gavaskar responds to 'Bazball' warning, says 'we have 'Viratball'

Former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar has burst England’s bubble of ‘Bazball’ with his one statement. India will be playing the first test of the five-match test series against England at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. England look confident of putting up a challenge against India. England team are backing their ability to play counter attacking cricket on Indian rank turners.
Sunil Gavaskar has given a bold statement regarding Indian campaign against England. Gavaskar backed Virat Kohli for a power packed performance in the upcoming five-match test series. He said that India have ‘Viratball’ to counter England’s approach. Virat Kohli had done well for India when England previously visited India in 2020-21.
Sunil Gavaskar backs ‘Viratball’
Sunil Gavaskar said that Virat Kohli has the best conversion rate and is currently having a great run across all formats of the game. Sunil Gavaskar said, “Conversion means having more hundreds than fifties. With Kohli, he has as a similar amount of hundreds and fifties, he has a good conversion rate. The way he’s been batting, his movement looks good. we have Viratball to counter Bazball.”
He also raised a doubt over England’s newly adopted ‘Bazball’ strategy. Gavaskar added, “England have adopted a new approach in Test cricket in the last 1-2 years. It’s an aggressive approach where batters look to attack. They just want to play attacking cricket no matter the situation. It’ll be interesting to see if this approach works against the spinners of India.”
England suffered a 3-1 defeat in their previous tour of India in 2021. Indian spinners rattled English batters. Left-arm spinner Axar Patel went on to take 27 wickets against England in the three test matches in 2021. India and England have produced memorable encounters in recent years. Both the teams have assembled in Hyderabad for the first test match on Thursday.
