Suryakumar Yadav is the vice-captain of Mumbai Indians.

Indian Cricket Team batter Suryakumar Yadav was recently stripped of his T20I captaincy ahead of the Ireland and England tour due to his prolonged struggles with the bat. Shreyas Iyer has been named as the new T20I captain. Moreover, Suryakumar has also lost his place in the team.

Recently, Suryakumar represented Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. He completely failed to come good with bat, scoring 270 runs in 13 games at an average of 20.77. He scored two half-centuries but got out cheaply on many instances.

He is the vice-captain of MI and also led them in three games in Hardik Pandya’s absence. Pandya missed three matches due to illness and back spasms. Mumbai completely flopped with their performance, losing 10 games out of 14. With eight points, they finished at the ninth spot in the points table. They were eliminated from the tournament even before their last game.

On Monday, the 35-year-old batter unfollowed Mumbai Indians on Instagram, which caught the attention of many cricket fans. He also deleted all the previous posts of MI from his account. Also, he removed ‘Mumbai Indians’ from his bio. His social media activity has led to rumours that he is set to part ways with the franchise.

Notably, Hardik Pandya also did something similar during IPL 2026. When MI lost the playoffs berth after losing to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a close-fought encounter, Pandya unfollowed the franchise on Instagram after the match. However, he again followed them once again after two hours.

Meanwhile, Suryakumar is currently part of Mumbai T20 League 2026, where he leads Triumphs Knights. In the clash against SOBO Mumbai Falcons on Saturday, he scored a brilliant knock of 48 runs in a losing cause. His team has also lost all three games at the start and are placed in the last position among eight teams.
