Men's T20 World Cup 2024 to be played from 4th June, 20 teams to participate - Reports

T20 World Cup 2024 will be played in West Indies and USA across ten different venues.
England won the 8th edition of the T20 World Cup in 2022, held in Australia, beating Pakistan in the final. The next edition is set to take place in 2024. The ICC has chosen West Indies and the USA as the official co-hosts of the tournament. However, as per some media reports, it has been learned that the T20 World Cup 2024 will kick off on June 4 next year.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, the 9th edition will be played across ten different venues in West Indies and the USA and will last for a total of 25 days. The final of the tournament is scheduled to take place on June 30. The venues will soon be shortlisted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after discussions with Cricket West Indies and USA Cricket.
T20 World Cup 2024 to be played between June 4 and June 30 - Reports
The report further suggests that the ICC inspected some venues that are supposed to host the World Cup games in USA. Four venues are expected: Lauderhill, Morrisville, Dallas, and New York. Meanwhile, Grand Prairie Stadium (Dallas), Church Street Park (Morrisville), and Van Cortlandt Park (New York) are yet to get international ground status, which is mandatory as per rule. On the other hand, Ireland, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea qualified for the tournament through regional qualifiers this week.
The T20 World Cup 2024 will be a 20-team tournament. Five spots from Asia (two spots), the Americas (one spot), and Africa (two spots) will be finalized in the coming months. Meanwhile, twelve top nations have already made it to the tournament on the basis of T20I rankings, including two hosts. It will be totally different from the last two editions played in 2021 and 2022.
There will be four groups with five teams each. The top two teams from four groups will make it to the Super 8s. Those top eight teams will be divided into two groups of four teams. Then, the top two teams from each group will make it to the semi-finals. Meanwhile, the decision to choose the USA as a co-host by the ICC was taken to push cricket in the North American market and also to add this game to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games (LA28).
