[Watch] Tanzid Hasan escapes serious eye injury after ball gets stuck in helmet during BAN vs NED in ICC T20 World Cup 2024

Tanzid Hasan scored 35 runs against the Netherlands in their Group D encounter in Kingstown.

Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan was fortunate to avoid what could have been a serious injury to his left eye against the Netherlands in their encounter in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

Bangladesh and Netherlands met on Thursday in a crucial Group D encounter at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent, where the Asian side emerged victorious by 25 runs, courtesy of veteran cricketer Shakib Al Hasan’s 64*. This win has now put Bangladesh in a strong position to qualify for the Super 8 round.

During the match, opener Tanzid Hasan was hit right in his heat with a bouncer from the pacer Vivian Kingma in the third over of Bangladesh’s innings.

Hasan saw the short length of the delivery from Kingma and instinctively went with the pull shot, aiming for the leg side boundary. However, the ball bounced a bit extra than the left-handed batter anticipated and got hit straight in his helmet.

However, the ball didn’t hit Hasan on the hard part of the helmet. Instead, it went right into its grill. Thankfully, for the batter, the grill of the helmet saved him from a potential eye injury as the ball got stuck into the grill and didn’t go deeper into it. Despite being taken by surprise with the bouncer jamming into his grill, Hasan looked unfazed. He removed his helmet quickly.

Speaking with the ICC after the match, Hasan recalled the incident. He said, “Unfortunately, that ball was a little bit bouncy. That’s why I couldn’t connect and hit the helmet. And I am okay now. Actually, I was thinking the ball was going up. But the ball got stuck in front of my eyesight. That time I was thinking they will come, take the ball and appeal. So, I opened my helmet and grounded the ball.”
