Abhishek Sharma has been playing for SRH since 2019.
Abhishek Sharma reportedly unhappy with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)’s decision to give Ishan Kishan the captain’s armband over him. SRH’s captain, Pat Cummins, missed the initial few games of IPL 2026 due to a back injury, and in his absence, Ishan Kishan was named the interim skipper.
Meanwhile, Pat Cummins‘ future in franchise cricket remains unclear, as Australia has a stacked schedule in 2027, including the ICC ODI World Cup, which will be co-hosted by South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. Thus, the board is likely to announce Kishan as the permanent captain in the next edition of the Indian Premier League.
According to multiple reports, Abhishek Sharma is considering a move to another team in the league, where he could take on a more important role. Courtesy of Sharma’s resume, multiple sides would be interested in securing his services. Thus, let’s take a look at the three teams Abhishek Sharma could play for in IPL if he decides to leave SRH.

3. Punjab Kings (PBKS)
Punjab has been Abhishek Sharma’s home, and he might consider a homecoming at the next edition if he leaves Hyderabad. He plays for Punjab in domestic cricket, and might represent the state in the IPL as well.
Shreyas Iyer’s time as PBKS‘s skipper has been very fulfilling for the board and the fans. He led the side to the final in the 2025 season; however, they failed to advance past the group stage in the subsequent edition. The Kings have a strong opening pair in Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimram Singh; thus, it remains to be seen where they will place Abhishek if something aforementioned happens.
2. Delhi Capitals (DC)
Delhi Capitals could capitalise on Yuvraj Singh’s dynamic with Abhishek Sharma to sign him. The former Indian all-rounder will join DC as their batting coach ahead of the IPL 2027, and he has been a longtime coach and mentor of Abhishek, too. Thus, if he manages to convince the Indian opening batter to join the Capitals, it would be a great addition for the 2020 runner-ups.
He was part of the Capitals during the 2018 season, in which he scored 63 runs in three matches; however, he was signed by the Sunrisers for the next edition.
1. Mumbai Indians (MI)
The Mumbai Indians are currently going through an internal tussle after Hardik Pandya failed to lead the side to success in the last editions. According to multiple reports, Pandya is unlikely to play for the five-time champions in the next IPL season; thus, MI could consider a swap or a play-plus-cash deal to seal the transfer of Abhishek Sharma.
The 26-year-old left-handed batter could be a long-term replacement for Rohit Sharma, whose future is also uncertain as he will turn 40 soon. Abhishek also adds a bowling option to the side, making himself a player hard to resist.
How many seasons has Abhishek Sharma played for SRH?
Abhishek Sharma has played eight seasons for Sunrisers Hyderbad.
