Teams who have played most ICC Women's T20 World Cup finals
Six different teams have featured in the finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
The maiden edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup was held in England in 2009. This competition started with eight teams and then was increased to ten after the first three editions.
Four different teams have won the title while a total of six different teams have made it to the finals. Only Pakistan and Sri Lanka are the teams who have not reached the final even once among the sides who have featured in all eight editions.
In this article, we will talk about the teams that have played the most ICC Women’s T20 World Cup finals.

6. India – 1 time
The Indian cricket team have made it to the knockouts of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup five times in eight editions. In 2009, 2010, 2018 and 2023, they were knocked out in the semi-finals.
In 2020, they made it to the finals for the first time under the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur. India were undefeated until the final. But, they lost the championship clash to hosts Australia at the MCG by 85 runs.
5. West Indies – 1 time
West Indies reached their maiden ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final in 2016 in India and clinched the trophy as well.
They made it to the final under the captaincy of Stafanie Taylor, who finished the tournament with the Player of the Tournament award. West Indies beat Australia in the final.
4. South Africa – 2 times
South Africa made their first appearance in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final in 2023, which was hosted in their own backyard. Earlier, they featured in two semi-finals in 2014 and 2020 and lost both of the times. But this time, Sune Luus led them to their maiden final but they fell short by 19 runs against Australia.
In the following edition in 2024, South Africa thrashed Australia in the semi-finals by eight wickets to make it to the finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for the second time in a row.
3. New Zealand – 3 times
New Zealand have made it to the knockouts of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in four out of eight editions. They came close to winning the trophy when they reached the finals in the first two editions but lost both times.
In 2009, they lost the final to England by six wickets and in 2010, Australia beat them by just three runs. Their third appearance in the final came in 2024, where they met South Africa.
2. England – 4 times
England made history in the inaugural ICC Women’s T20 World Cup edition in 2009 at home. Charlotte Edwards took her team to the title by beating New Zealand in the final at Lord’s.
After that, England played three more finals, in 2012, 2014, and 2018, all against Australia. But they ended up on the losing side in all three of them.
1. Australia – 7 Times
Australia are the most successful team in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup history. They have featured in seven finals and won six out of eight editions. Alex Blackwell, Jodie Fields and Meg Lanning (4 titles) are their T20 World Cup-winning captains.
Australia won the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2018, 2020 and 2023. Apart from this, they played in the final of the 2016 edition, where they were beaten by West Indies. They failed to make it to the finals of the 2024 edition after losing to South Africa in the semi-finals.
