Temba Bavuma said there is a lot of pride attached to South Africa’s past performances against India.

South Africa will be opening their ICC World test Championship 2023-25 cycle campaign with a two-match test series against India. Temba Bavuma has been appointed as the captain of South African squad replacing Dean Elgar earlier this year. Bavuma has a big challenge ahead as his side will be taking on India in the first test at Supersport Park in Centurion.

Temba Bavuma associates a lot of pride with South Africa’s past performance against India. South Africa have never conceded their territory against India. Bavuma has also acknowledged the challenge South African side will face while taking on team India in the upcoming two-match test series. Second test match will be played at Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.

“There’s a lot of pride,” says Temba Bavuma

South African captain Temba Bavuma said that his side is aware about the challenges in the upcoming series. Bavuma said, “There’s a lot of pride attached to that we’ve been able to keep that record intact as a South African team. All of us as players also feel that. But we understand playing against India comes with certain challenges and it’s those types of challenges we would like to focus on.”

Temba Bavuma also added that Indian bowlers will put South African batting under pressure. Bavuma added, “For me as a batter, the bowlers are going to put you under pressure, and their batting line-up as well, they’ve got renowned Test players and guys who performed in all conditions. They are a determined team as well… we’ll really need to be at our best”

India will be looking to win their first ever test series against South Africa. India had happy memories playing in Centurion in last tour. They had a terrific start in the previous tour in 2021-22. India defeated South Africa by 113 runs in Centurion but South Africa bounced back nicely in final two test matches played at Wanderers Stadium and in New Lands Stadium in Cape Town.
