Only one bowler has crossed the 155 KMPH mark in IPL 2024 so far.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has provided a platform for fast bowlers to showcase their abilities, frequently generating thundering deliveries that leave batsmen in awe. Throughout the years, various bowlers have unleashed tremendous velocity, triggering shivers in opponents.

Even in the ongoing IPL 2024, some thunderbolts have been delivered in the first ten matches, with the most recent one bowled by debutant Mayank Yadav. Yadav made his debut for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and his first ball of his maiden over was 147 kph. He just turned the heat up in next 23 balls he bowled and created history.

Here are the top 5 fastest bowlers in IPL 2024:

5. Matheesha Pathirana (CSK) – 150.9 KMPH

Matheesha Pathirana of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is considered one of the best young talents emerging in Sri Lanka. He was gobbled up by CSK in the IPL 2022 auction and has been with them since. He played a huge role in CSK winning the IPL 2023 title with his yorkers from Lasith Malinga-like action doing the work for MS Dhoni in death overs.

Known for bowling consistently in high 140 kphs, in this IPL 2024, Pathirana bowled his fastest ball at 150.9 for CSK. This ball came in the CSK v Gujarat Titans match recently, a match that MS Dhoni and co. won easily.

4. Alzarri Joseph (RCB) – 151.2 KMPH

West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph was surprisingly dropped from the GT squad ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. He was bought by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai, who have hugely bolstered their bowling unit, getting other pacers like Tom Curran, and Lockie Ferguson amongst others.

Joseph holds the record for the best bowling figures in IPL history (6/12) and showed why he is the leader of the Windies pace attack in the last 2-3 years. He is also one bowler who deals in high pace and in this IPL 2024, Joseph’s fastest ball in IPL 2024 has been 151.2 kph against Kolkata Knight Riders recently.

3. Gerald Coetzee (MI) – 152.3 KMPH

Gerald Coetzee brings the much-needed pace to the Mumbai Indians (MI) bowling unit, which is headed by Jasprit Bumrah. Coetzee made a name for himself in the ICC Cricket World Cup last year, when he showed a penchant for using pace as a weapon on the Indian pitches and gained an IPL contract in return.

In this IPL, Coetzee has shown the same zeal for aggressive fast bowling which reminds cricket fans of Dale Steyn and he has matched the speeds at which the legend used to bowl. Coetzee has gone one step ahead and bowled the fastest ball by an MI bowler in IPL 2024 against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which was clocked at 152.3.

2. Nandre Burger (RR) – 153 KMPH

Another debutant pacer from South Africa Nandre Burger made an immediate impact for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2024. Burger impressed one and all with his pace in the India test series and then in the SA20 and was rewarded with an IPL contract with RR. And he was very good with his speed and accuracy. His fastest ball of IPL 2024 came against the Delhi Capitals, where he delivered a 153kph thunderbolt.

1. Mayank Yadav (LSG) – 156.7 KMPH

Nandre Burger’s record for the fastest ball in IPL 2024 was demolished by another debutant pacer. This time it was Mayank Yadav, who debuted for Lucknow Super Giants. Gautam Gambhir, the then-LSG mentor, chose him for IPL 2023. This came after Yadav shined in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he consistently bowled beyond 150 kph. However, Yadav was unable to participate in the IPL season due to injury and was replaced by Arpit Guleria.

But in this IPL 2024 season, Mayank Yadav got a chance to showcase his bowling talent and the 21-year-old opened his IPL over with a 147 kph delivery. However, the best moment of his first IPL match came when he completely outplayed veteran Shikhar Dhawan with a 155.8 kmph thunderbolt.

However, in his next match against RCB, Mayank Yadav broke his own record as he bowled a 156.7 kmph delivery.
