Kedar Jadhav scored 1389 runs in 73 matches in ODI cricket for India.

Former Indian middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on June 3. The middle-order batter last played for India in February 2020 against New Zealand in Auckland. Jadhav made his ODI debut for India in November 2014 against Sri Lanka. He made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in July 2015. 

The middle-order batter Kedar Jadhav scored a total of 1389 runs in 73 ODI matches he played for the country. The right-handed batter smashed two hundreds and six half centuries with a good average of 42.09. With the ball, he took 27 ODI wickets.

In T20Is, the 39-year-old scored 122 runs in nine outings, with a best score of 58 runs. Jadhav only had hit only one half-century in the nine matches that he played for India in the shortest format. For Maharashtra, Jadhav played 87 First-Class (FC) games. He smashed 6100 runs, including 17 hundreds and 23 fifties.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), 39-year-old Jadhav represented Delhi Daredevils, Chennai Super Kings, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Royal Challengers Bangalore (Bengaluru now). In 93 IPL games, the all-rounder scored 1196 runs, including four half-centuries.

1. 120 runs off 76 balls vs England in 2017

England toured India for an all-format series in 2016-17. After completing the test series, the two nations faced each other in the three-match ODI series in January 2017. The first ODI match was played in Pune, where England batted first and smashed 350/7 in the 50 overs. While chasing, Men in Blue were rocked to 63/4 in 12 overs. However, Kedar Jadhav along with Virat Kohli, took responsibility on his shoulders. Jadhav played counter-attacking cricket and stitched a match-winning partnership of 200 runs with Kohli.

Jadhav completed his century in just 65 balls. Overall, he batted 76 balls and piled 120 runs, which had 12 fours and four sixes. Kedar Jadhav even overshadowed Kohli’s ton in that match as India won the match by three wickets.

2. 90 runs in 75 balls vs England in 2017

India took on England in the final match of the three-match ODI series in 2017. After the Three Lions scored a competitive total of 321/8 in 50 overs at Eden Gardens, the Men in Blue once again lost three wickets inside 20 overs.

Once again, Kedar scored a gritty 75-ball 90 , which included 12 boundaries and one six. Towards the end, his efforts went in vain as India fell short of the target by just five runs. However, Kedar was adjudged Player of the Series with 232 runs to his name in the three-match ODI series in 2017.

3. 23* runs off 27 balls, vs Bangladesh in 2018

In the thrilling Asia Cup 2018 final between India and Bangladesh, Kedar showcased his never-give-up attitude. Batting first, Bangladesh scored 222 runs in 48.3 overs. In response, Men in Blue kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

To make things worse, when the Men in Blue were on 168/5 in 38 overs, Kedar went off the field limping. But when the team needed him the most, he returned to the crease in the 49th over of the match.

With just one run needed in the last ball of the 50th over, limping Jadhav ran the most defining single of his international career as India went on to lift their seventh Asia Cup title by defeating Bangladesh by three wickets. Kedar played a gritty knock of 23* runs off 27 deliveries.

4. 61 runs off 57 balls vs Australia in 2019

India toured Australia for an all-format series in 2018–19. After winning the T20I and the test series, India’s eyes were on claiming the ODI series.

With the ODI series being leveled at 1-1, both sides faced each other in the final match in Melbourne. While chasing 231 runs, Kedar and MS Dhoni (87*) stitched an unbeaten 121-run partnership as India won the match and then clinched the three-match series 2-1. 

Kedar’s fighting knock of 61* off 57 balls, which included seven fours, helped the Men in Blue win the match by seven wickets.

5. 52 runs off 68 balls vs Afghanistan in 2019

In the ICC ODI World Cup 2019, India faced Afghanistan in Southampton. After being invited to bat first, India were struggling to get going on a slow track. However, Kedar’s brilliant knock of 52 runs off 68 deliveries, which included three boundaries and one six, helped Men in Blue reach a respectable total of 224/8 in 50 overs.

Kedar’s fighting innings and a brilliant bowling spell from Mohammed Shami, which included a last-over hat-trick, helped India win the thrilling contest by 11 runs.
