Twitterverse shocked at Delhi Capitals dropping Prithvi Shaw from their IPL 2024 opener against Punjab Kings

Prithvi Shaw managed to score 106 runs in eight matches last season for DC.

Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw is one major name missing from Delhi Capitals’ (DC) playing XI for their IPL 2024 opening match against Punjab Kings (PBKS). The match is being played at the newest IPL venue, the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Mohali on Saturday (March 23).

Rishabh Pant, the captain of DC, is making his cricketing comeback in this match. Playing his first competitive match since December last year, the wicket-keeper batsman was sidelined for the entire season the previous year. In addition to having their captain back, DC have a new starting lineup for IPL 2024.

David Warner opened the innings alongside Phil Salt and Prithvi Shaw in the last IPL tournament. The Delhi-based team has since endorsed Mitchell Marsh, an Australian all-rounder, as Warner’s new opening partner.

In Twenty20 Internationals, Marsh has been opening the innings for Australia; DC will be looking to the in-form all-rounder to provide them with support at the top of the order.

Twitterverse stunned as Prithvi Shaw dropped from the DC XI for IPL 2024 opener

Shaw had struggled badly in the IPL 2023 in the number of chances he got. In eight games last year, the Mumbai star managed to score only a modest 106 runs and 54 of those runs came in a single game. Finally he was dropped from the XI in IPL 2023 by DC mid-way into the tournament.

However, Prithvi Shaw’s name was missing from the playing XI list of DC against PBKS on Saturday. Shaw had made his cricketing return in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai, as he had spent a few months away from the game after injuring his knee in a One-day competition in England.

He did not perform well in the Ranji Trophy either, most recently. He scored a century and a half for Mumbai in nine innings. Prithvi Shaw hasn’t exactly played well lately, but his omission from DC’s starting XI has caused some people to take notice.
