India defeated England by 68 runs in the semi-finals in Guyana.

India stormed into the finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 with one of their best performances in T20 World Cups by thrashing defending champions England by 68 runs in the semi-final 2 at the Providence Stadium in Guyana.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma top-scored in the match with 57 runs off 39 balls, playing another gem of a knock in an ICC tournament. On a slow and low pitch with inconsistent bounce, the Men In Blue posted 171/7, which was certainly an above-par total on this surface.

England were bundled out for only 103 runs with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav picking up three wickets each.

Rohit’s side will face South Africa in the final on June 29 in Barbados. This will be India’s third T20 World Cup final. The Asian giants won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup back in 2007, defeating Pakistan in the final, but they lost to Sri Lanka in the 2014 T20 World Cup final.

They had not reached the final in the last three editions and Sunday provides them a great opportunity to end their ICC title drought, which has extended to more than 10 years.

Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bowl first while Rohit said he wanted to bat first anyway. Rohit was proven vindicated in his assessment of the pitch, which, as he said, kept getting slower in the second innings.

India lost Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant for single-digit scores but others did the heavy lifting. Apart from Rohit’s 57 (39), Suryakumar Yadav scored 47 (36), Hardik Pandya scored 23 (13) and some late hits from Jadeja and Axar took the side to 171.

During England’s innings, once Axar dismissed Buttler in the fourth over, the Asian giants got all over the Three Lions. Bumrah bowled Phil Salt with a slower one, while Axar and Kuldeep got through the defences of Bairstow and Brook.

The rest of the English batting provided very little resistance and India sealed the match by 68 runs and entered the final of an ICC tournament for a second consecutive year.

This is how netizens reacted on Twitter to India hammering England in the semi-final:
