"Poor pitches produce best games…" Twitter erupts as India bounce back brilliantly to hand Pakistan a defeat by 6 runs
Jasprit Bumrah’s brilliant spell of 3/14 helped India defeat Pakistan by six runs in New York.
For the seventh time in eight IND vs PAK matches in the T20 World Cup history, India have emerged victorious as Rohit Sharma’s team thumped Babar Azam’s side in New York in their Group A encounter of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
Man of the Match in India’s victory over Ireland, Jasprit Bumrah was once again outstanding with the ball. He returned with figures of 3/14 as India successfully defended their total of 119 runs by six runs. Bumrah delivered a sensational 19th over in which he conceded only four runs and dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam won a crucial toss and elected to bowl first. Although Rohit Sharma hit Shaheen Afridi for a six in the first over and Virat Kohli started with a cover drive fours to Naseem Shah, the Pakistani bowlers hit back soon. Naseem dismissed Kohli, caught at point, and Shaheen dismissed Rohit, caught at deep square leg.
Rishabh Pant got lucky and survived multiple times as Pakistani players failed to grasp some tough chances. The left-hander scored 42 runs in 31 balls. Axar Patel was promoted to number 4 and he scored 20 runs in 18 balls.
Once Patel was dismissed in the 8th over, India’s innings slowed down and later on fell off spectacularly. Starting with Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket in the 12th over, India went from 89/3 to 119 all-out. Naseem Shah took three wickets. After Kohli, he dismissed Axar and Dube. Rauf dismissed Suryakumar, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, while Mohammad Amir nipped out Pant and Jadeja.
In the chase, Pakistan were steady and looked set for a victory until they were 72/2 at the 12-over mark. However, then Pandya dismissed Fakhar in an over he gave only one run. Bumrah then dismissed the set batter, Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 31(44). After Axar bowled a tidy over, Hardik dismissed Shadab as the match opened up.
Bumrah finally put India in front in the 19th over when he gave only four runs and dismissed Iftikhar. Arshdeep closed out the game in the last over.
Following India’s sensational win over their arch-rivals, Pakistan, cricketing fraternity rejoiced and celebrated across all social media platforms.
