Irfan Pathan leads as cricket fraternity bid farewell to Rohit Sharma on X after his test retirement

Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Tests by posting an Instagram story.
Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma said goodbye to Test cricket on Wednesday, May 7. Sharma became India’s Test captain in February 2022 and took over the leadership duties from then-skipper Virat Kohli. Hence, Sharma will now play for India in only One-Day Internationals and will also lead the side.
The right-handed batsman led the Indian team to ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final in June. Team India lost the final against Australia and ended as runners-up. However, Sharma failed to drive the Indian team to the forthcoming ICC WTC 2025 final; which will take place next month in June. He played a total of 67 Tests from November 2013 to December 2024.
Rohit scored 4301 runs in tests with 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. Currently, he is India’s highest scorer in the World Test Championship.
Cricket fraternity shares posts on X for Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Tests by posting an Instagram story. Cricketers like Irfan Pathan and Amit Mishra shared heart-warming posts on X (formerly Twitter) after Sharma’s test retirement.
“Congratulations. @ImRo45 on your test career. 2021 test series in England will be remembered for your heroics. Go well in your next phase”, former Indian pacer Pathan wrote on X.
“Congratulations on a legendary Test career, @ImRo45. You’ve made India proud. All the best for your ODI journey. God bless you”, former India spinner Amit Mishra posted on X. Have a look at their posts below.
Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Indian Cricket Team, Mumbai Indians (MI), and Rajasthan Royals (RR) also shared posts to congratulate Sharma for his wonderful test career. Below are their posts.
The Indian opener Sharma mustered 4301 runs across 116 innings in tests at a batting average of 40.58. He also slammed a double ton in the longest format- his top knock of 212 runs against South Africa. He smacked 12 centuries and 18 half-centuries. His retirement decision from tests comes after India’s defeat in Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia earlier this year.
