Kolkata Knight Riders bought Mitchell Starc for a record-breaking 24.75 crores INR in IPL 2024 auction.

It was a great day for Australian speedsters in the IPL 2024 auction held in Dubai. At first, Australia captain Pat Cummins breached the 20-crore mark in the bidding war but an hour later, his Australian teammate, Mitchell Starc shattered every single record of the Indian Premier League and became the most expensive buy in the league with the highest bid of 24.75 crore INR placed on left-armer Mitchell Starc from two-time title winners Kolkata Knight Riders.

Social media was full of memefest when KKR and Gujarat Titans were going for the Australian left-armer aggressively in the bidding process. Starc has stayed away from the league since 2015. Social media users were also in shock after Starc fetched a huge amount of money from the franchises. Rajasthan Royals admin also took a dig at KKR fans after Starc’s entry and asked using a meme template from a Bollywood movie, whether he will be coming for the league or not.

Starc’s participation is a talking point

Mitchell Starc has made it clear that he will be looking ahead for the upcoming IPL 2024 season as this will also pave the way for a place in the T20 World Cup squad for Australia. Gujarat Titans released Alzarri Joseph from their camp and they were trying hard to get an experienced bowler like Mitchell Starc into their camp but Kolkata Knight Rider’s relentless push in the bidding war cornered Titans and other franchises.

Here’s how twitter reacted to KKR buying Mitchell Starc:

Kolkata Knight Riders are looking to build a solid bowling lineup and so far they have got two left-arm pace bowlers in Chetan Sakariya and Mitchell Starc in their camp. KKR still have 6.95 crore INR left in the purse. They have also bought wicket-keeper KS Bharat. KKR will be hoping for Mitchell Starc’s injury-free upcoming international home season as in the past he has suffered from a lot of injuries and niggles that ruled him out of the entire IPL season.

Mitchell Starc has played only 27 games in his IPL career. Starc represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2014 and IPL 2015. He made his debut for RCB against Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium and ended up picking one wicket. Starc has picked up 34 wickets in his 27 IPL games with an economy rate of 7.17. Mitchell Starc recently had a decent ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 for Australia.
