Marcus Stoinis hit his maiden hundred in the IPL.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Chepauk on April 23 in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. This is the second match between the two teams; LSG defeated CSK in Lucknow.

LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bowl first. They were also able to take some cheap wickets, as Ajinkya Rahane (1), Daryl Mitchell (11), and Ravindra Jadeja (16) were all out by the 12th over for 101 runs.

But Ruturaj Gaikwad was scoring runs on the other end, and when he was joined by Shivam Dube, CSK’s scoring rate surged. Dube hit 66 runs in 27 balls, including seven sixes and three fours, while Ruturaj stayed unbroken at 100 with 12 fours and three sixes to his name as CSK posted 210/4 in 20 overs.

In reply, the LSG lost Quinton de Kock for a duck in the first over. Then KL Rahul (16) and Marcus Stoinis added 33 runs to help the ship stabilize before Rahul was caught by Ruturaj Gaikwad off Mustafizur Rahman.

While Marcus Stoinis was hitting the ball brilliantly and keeping LSG on track, he required assistance from the other end. However, that support didn’t arrive until Nicholas Pooran entered the crease. Pooran made a quickfire 34 in 15 balls to get LSG back in the game before falling to Pathirana.

However, it was Marcus Stoinis who led the way in the LSG chase as he added 55 with Devdutt Padikkal and then a crucial 70 in just 34 balls with Nicholas Pooran. Stoinis reached his 50 in just 26 balls and then completed his maiden IPL hundred in 56 balls with 9 fours and 5 sixes to his name.

Stoinis took down Mustafizur Rahman in the last over when 17 runs were needed off the last over. He hit him for a six and three fours to end the game and give LSG a win by 6 wickets. Stoinis made 124* in 63 balls with 13 fours and 6 sixes to his name.

Stoinis’ brilliant century in LSG’s win was lauded on social media by the fans and members of the cricket fraternity on social media.
