Virat Kohli was bowled by left-arm pacer Reece Topley in the semi-final in Guyana.
India opener Virat Kohli was dismissed for only nine runs off nine balls in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 semi-final against England. His average in this tournament is now merely 10.71 after seven innings.
It is incomprehensible to everyone how Kohli has gone into such disastrous form right after a thunderous Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, where he amassed more than 700 runs.
His knock against England in the semi-final 2 in Guyana on Thursday was perhaps his most struggle-filled innings of this tournament. He faced nine deliveries, out of which he connected sweetly only one, a superb flick shot sixer to Topley, albeit the pacer had erred on the fuller length in order to target Kohli’s pads.
Other than that, the 35-year-old India star struggled against Jofra Archer and Topley before the latter finally removed him by hitting his leg stump. Kohli charged down the pitch to put pressure on Topley, but the bowler followed the batter with a delivery on the leg stump.
The ball stayed low – as it was expected on this pitch – and Kohli missed his shot across the line. The ball flew under his bat and hit the top of the leg stump. A dejected Kohli had to take the long walk back to the dressing room without much to show once again.
This was his fifth single-digit score in this tournament out of seven innings. He’s so far managed only 75 runs at a strike rate of 100.
Kohli has been making a conscious effort to bat aggressively. However, the pitches in this competition have not been suited for such a brand of cricket, especially the one in Guyana which is infamous for its slow and low nature.
Fans have been left baffled by Virat Kohli’s poor form in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024:
