Travis Head has scored more than 500 runs in the ongoing IPL 2024.
Australian batter Travis Head is having a dream run in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, barring the last couple of innings. Representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Head has played a huge role in his team’s success with the bat. Head and uncapped Indian batsman Abhishek Sharma have become a deadly opening combo in the ongoing tournament.
In 13 outings so far, the left-handed batter Head has smashed 533 runs at an average of 44.42 and a jaw-dropping strike rate of 199, including four half-centuries and one century. His performances have helped his franchise reach the IPL 2024 playoffs.
Head began his IPL journey in 2016 with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). He just played three games and scored 54 runs. In the 2017 season, Head featured in seven games and amassed 151 runs with a best score of unbeaten 75. At the IPL 2024 auction, Head was acquired by the Hyderabad franchise for Rs 6.80 crores.
Would like to be back here: Travis Head confirms IPL 2025 participation
After having a stellar run in the ongoing IPL 2024, Hyderabad opener Head confirmed his participation in the 2025 edition. The Australian batter added that he is looking to play the Major League Cricket (MLC) this year after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
“After Tests, I will pick formats, and see in which different ways I am available for selection,” Head said. “At this stage, I would like to be back here in [the] IPL next year. Like I will play Major League Cricket [in the USA] this year right after the World T20 [T20 World Cup] but next year might just look a lot different,” Head told news agency PTI.
Will continue to prioritize test cricket over franchise leagues: Travis Head
Head asserted that he will continue to prioritize test cricket over T20 franchise leagues from the next year on. It is to be noted that the Australian batter played a huge role in Australia winning the World Test Championship 2023 final against India. Head smashed a brilliant century which put the Men in Blue on the back and cost the WTC trophy.
“This has been the first year in IPL for me in quite a while (since 2017). I would put all my eggs in Test basket for the moment, I will continue to do that,” Head said.
“Look, in few years when I am finished with Test cricket, then probably there will be few more opportunities to play a bit more franchise cricket. But at this time, I would try to limit it to a couple of franchise[s] maybe, and [focus on] Test cricket,” Head added.
