One of Head’s standout performances came in the fourth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 in Ahmedabad. Promoted to open the batting in the series, Head adopted a proactive approach, taking the attack to the Indian spinners.
Head smashed 90 runs in the second innings to help Australia force a draw on the last day. His quickfire knock consisted of 10 fours and two sixes.
4. 137, Ahmedabad, 2023
The most famous innings of Travis Head’s career came during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 final against India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Chasing a tricky 241-run target, Head demolished India, scoring 137 runs off 120 balls. His match-winning knock consisted of 15 fours and four sixes.
Head also became only the third Australian batsman, after Ricky Ponting (2003) and Adam Gilchrist (2007), to score a century in an ODI World Cup final. He was named Player of the Match for his stunning effort.
3. 140, Adelaide, 2024
Head played a dazzling knock in the second test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Adelaide.
Replying to India’s first-innings score of 180, Head led Australia’s charge, hammering 140 runs off 141 balls with 17 boundaries and four sixes.
His innings played a crucial role in Australia taking a commanding 157-run lead. The hosts ultimately won the game by 10 wickets, with Head earning the Player of the Match award.
2. 152, Brisbane, 2024
After his century in the Adelaide test, Travis Head dismantled the Indian bowling attack in the first innings of the third test of the BGT 2024-25 in Brisbane.
Coming to the crease with Australia in trouble at 75/3, Head joined Steve Smith to steady the ship with a crucial double-century partnership. Head notched up his century in 115 balls. The southpaw scored 152 runs consisting of 18 boundaries to propel Australia to a commanding position in the first innings.
1. 163, The Oval, 2023
One of Head’s most remarkable international innings came against India at the grand stage of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-23 final at The Oval.
Coming to the crease at 76/3, Head’s counterattacking innings of 163 runs, consisting of 25 fours and a six, propelled Australia to a massive first-innings score of 469 runs.
Australia won the WTC final by 209 runs and Head was named Player of the Match for his match-defining knock.
