Rinku Singh smashed two sixes in his knock of 68 runs against South Africa in the 2nd T20I.

After Suryakumar Yadav, middle-order batter Rinku Singh has emerged as India’s new-age star in the T20I format. Rinku has been a consistent performer for India in this format since he has made his debut. Once again he proved his worth as India’s crisis manager in the middle-order. Rinku took India’s total past 180 runs against South Africa in the 2nd T20I game played at St. George’s Park Gqeberha. Rinku Singh scored his maiden T20I fifty.

Indian fans are thrilled to witness Rinku’s masterclass once again. Fans have already started comparing Rinku Singh to the finest finishers who have graced the game in international cricket. Former cricketers have also praised India’s left-hand batter who is averaging more than 80 in his 7 T20I innings. Irfan Pathan predicted that there will be many more half-centuries from Rinku in the future. While few of the fans have also urged to not bench him to accommodate a senior out of the blue.

Rinku Singh came into bat at number 5 and had two decent partnerships to take India closer to a par score at St. George’s Park. Indian team was under pressure when Tilkak Varma was dismissed inside the first powerplay as they had lost 3 wickets in the first 6 overs. Rinku took the charge along with skipper Suryakumar Yadav (56) and added 70 runs for the 4th wicket. Later on, Rinku added 38 runs with Ravindra Jadeja for the 6th wicket.

Rinku Singh remained unbeaten when the rain stopped play in the final over of the Indian innings, Rinku scored 68 runs in 39 balls with 9 fours and 2 sixes. One of the big six went on to crash the glass of the media box window. He took on South African skipper Aiden Markram down the wicket and launched one over his head for a humongous six. That particular shot made the crowd go crazy at St George’s Park and was applauded Rinku’s ability to score runs freely.

India got off to a poor start as both openers got out cheaply. Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal both got out on ducks and South Africa put India under pressure in just the first two overs. Tilak Varma (29) and Suryakumar Yadav batted in a counter-attacking mode and made use of the powerplay. Gerald Coetzee dismissed Tilak Varma and was caught by all-rounder Marco Jansen. India were 180 for 7 at 19.3 overs when the rain stopped the proceedings.
