Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron announces retirement from representative cricket

Varun Aaron represented India in 18 matches across all formats.
Indian speedster Varun Aaron announced his retirement from “representative cricket” on Friday, January 10. Aaron has decided to pull the curtains on his 17-year-long career that saw him represent India in 18 games across formats.
Aaron announced his retirement after his team, Jharkhand, was eliminated from the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024/25, where he took three wickets at an average of 53.33.
Aaron made a name for himself during the 2010-11 Vijay Hazare Trophy, consistently bowling at speeds of over 150 kmph. He went on to represent India in nine tests and nine ODIs, with his last international appearance coming in November 2015 against South Africa in test cricket in Bengaluru.
Aaron played in nine seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) between 2011 and 2022 for Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals), Kings XI Punjab, Kolkata Knight Riders, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Gujarat Titans.
He finished his career with 141 List A wickets in 88 matches at an average of 26.47 and 93 wickets in 95 T20 matches with an economy rate of 8.53.

Announcing his retirement from representative cricket on Instagram, the Jharkhand pacer expressed gratitude and reflected on dedicating the past 20 years of his life to the game.
He wrote, “For the past 20 years, I have lived, breathed, and thrived on the rush of bowling fast. Today, with immense gratitude, I officially announce my retirement from representative cricket.“
He further noted that he looks forward to enjoying the other joys of life while staying deeply connected to cricket.
He continued, ” As I bid farewell to a pursuit that has consumed me completely, I now look forward to savoring the smaller joys in life while staying deeply connected to the game that has given me everything. Fast Bowling has been my first love, and though I step off the field, it will always be a part of who I am.“
