The tenure of VVS Laxman as the head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is about to end soon.
The last few weeks have seen many changes in Indian cricket. India won the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma and the coaching of Rahul Dravid, but now Rohit has retired from T20Is while Dravid’s tenure as head coach is over. Suryakumar Yadav is the new T20I captain, and Gautam Gambhir is India’s new head coach.
And now it is time for a change in the position of the National Capital Academy (NCA) head. VVS Laxman, who has been handling this responsibility since 2021, is likely to be replaced by former Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour. Laxman, who travelled with the Indian team for the tour of Zimbabwe as interim coach, is reportedly not willing to renew his contract as NCA head, which will end in September.
Former Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour is set to replace VVS Laxman as NCA head
According to a report in Sports Tak, the former stylish batter is not looking to renew or extend his contrast as the NCA head. Hence, we will see a new person taking on these responsibilities. The source further added that Ex-India batting coach Vikram Rathour is the front-runner for this post. The source said, “It is very likely that you may see Rathour heading NCA. For now, a call on VVS Laxman’s contract renewal is pending, but the conversation from his side is not positive.”
However, the official announcement is only possible after BCCI secretary Jay Shah returns from Sri Lanka. He is in Colombo for the ICC Annual General Meeting. On his return, he will have a word with VVS Laxman. The source further said, “Rathour might be asked to take charge at NCA. The BCCI secretary (Jay Shah) after the ICC meeting is likely to have a word with VVS to understand his side.”
Rathour joined Team India as batting coach in 2019 until 2021. But the BCCI retained him as batting coach for Dravid’s support staff in 2021. He played six tests and seven ODIs for India.
