IPL 2024: Virat Kohli becomes first cricketer to play 250 matches for a single team in the IPL

In match No. 62 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batter Virat Kohli achieved a huge milestone as he became the first cricketer to play 250 matches for a single IPL franchise till now. Kohli achieved this milestone during RCB’s clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on May 12.
Overall, Kohli is the fourth cricketer after MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik to play 250 or more IPL matches.
The Indian cricketer, who started his IPL career with the Bengaluru franchise in 2008, has continued to be part of the team since then. The Bengaluru-based franchise never released him before any IPL auction, and it seems like Kohli is all set to play for them until his retirement.
Throughout his illustrious career while playing for RCB, Kohli has amassed 7906 runs at an average of 38.75 with a strike rate of over 131. The legendary batter has smashed eight centuries and 55 half-centuries till now. Kohli also served as the skipper for the franchise for eight years from 2013 to 2021. He then quit captaincy after IPL 2021 season.
King Kohli also holds the record for most runs in a single IPL edition. The former Bengaluru skipper hammered 973 runs in 16 games in the 2016 edition of the tournament. Kohli had an average of over 81 with a strike rate above 152. He smashed four half-centuries and seven centuries.

The 35-year-old Kohli went back to the hut after smashing 13-ball 27 including three sixes and one boundary with an explosive strike rate of over 205. His counter attacking cricket provided the hosts a quick start.
