Virat Kohli announced his retirement from T20Is following the game.

Virat Kohli was in a sea of emotions after India won the T20 World Cup 2024 and shared his joy with his family on video call. India defeated South Africa in the final of the tournament which was played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29.

India captain Rohit Sharma had won the toss and chosen to bat first. India lost Rohit Sharma (9), Rishabh Pant (0) and Suryakumar Yadav (3) early on, with Virat Kohli watching from the other end.

Then he got support from Axar Patel as the duo added a valuable 72 runs for the fourth wicket. Axar made 47 with four sixes and one four, while Virat Kohli almost batted through, scoring 76 in 59 balls, including six fours and two sixes.

Shivam Dube’s quick 27 powered India to 176/7 in 20 overs. For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje picked up two wickets apiece.

In the chase, South Africa lost Reeza Hendricks early and Aiden Markram early. But Quinton de Kock (39) remained firm, supported by Tristan Stubbs (31) and Heinrich Klaasen (52), who dragged South Africa back into the game, with Klaasen hitting Akshar Patel for 24 runs in the fifteenth over.

But then Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh bowled brilliantly, stifling South Africa’s bats, and India triumphed by 7 runs. Hardik Pandya took 3/20, while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets each.

India became the third team after West Indies and England to win the T20 World Cup twice.

Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Match for his 76 and in a huge news, announced his retirement from T20Is.

Following the typical post-match protocols, Virat Kohli called his family back home to share the memorable moment with them. Kohli was seen taking out his phone and speaking with his wife Anushka Sharma and their children.

Virat Kohli was seen making goofy faces while allegedly speaking to his baby kid Akaay. Kohli was unable to contain his emotions, letting his tears run.
