Virat Kohli surpassed Quinton de Kock to become the highest run-scorer in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

The final game of the group stage in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 took place on Sunday when table-toppers India locked horns with the bottom-ranked Netherlands at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. As expected, it ended in a one-sided affair as India won the game by 160 runs and continued their winning streak heading into the knockout stage. India finished the group stage with nine wins.

It was a complete performance from the Indian team in both departments. Batting first, India posted their second-highest World Cup total of 410/4 in 50 overs. All five top batters made 50-plus scores, including centuries from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul. India got off to a flying start, with both openers scoring 91 runs in the first powerplay. Shubman Gill scored a 30-ball fifty and made 51 off 32, while Rohit Sharma scored 61 off 54.

After a good start from the openers, India kept the momentum, and Virat Kohli also scored his fifth half-century of the tournament. He made 51 runs before getting out to Roelof Van der Merwe. After that, Iyer and Rahul added 208 runs in 21.1 overs and took India past the 400-run mark. Iyer made his maiden World Cup ton and scored an unbeaten 128 runs off 94 balls with ten fours and five sixes.

On the other hand, Rahul smashed India’s fastest World Cup ton off just 62 balls. He made 102 off 64, including 11 boundaries and four maximums. In reply, Netherlands had a good start with 62/1 in the first ten overs. But they only reached 250 runs and lost the game. After the match, there was a beautiful moment with Virat Kohli and the Dutch team. The former Indian captain gifted his jersey to the opposition.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) shared the video of that moment, and the Dutch team were emotional as well. For India, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets each. Virat, Rohit, Gill and Suryakumar Yadav also rolled their arms over. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also picked up a wicket each. India will now face New Zealand in the all-important semi-final on November 15 at the Wankhede Stadium.
