Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma deserve to retire when they want to, says Yuvraj Singh

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are the top two highest run scorers in T20I cricket.
Legendary Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who was part of T20 World Cup win in 2007 and ODI World Cup win in 2011, has made a big statement on veteran Indian stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Yuvraj has said both the senior pros of current Indian setup should be left alone to decide about their future.
However, Yuvraj added that both senior Indian cricketers should retire from at least one format after the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA in June.
It is to be noted that the Kohli-Rohit duo hasn’t played much of any T20I games since the semi-final loss against England in the 2022 T20 World Cup. They missed T20I cricket in 2023 for Indian cricket team, which raised many questions regarding their inclusion in squad for the T20 World Cup later this year.
However, earlier this year, the duo returned to the Indian side to play in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan at home. Currently, both the senior cricketers are playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 for their respective franchises. Both Kohli and Rohit are in phenomenal form and have also smashed a century each in the ongoing IPL 2024.
The Indian squad for the upcoming global event might be announced in just a few days, and it is almost sure that Kohli and Rohit will be the first two names added in the squad for the Men in Blue. Earlier, the BCCI Secretary Jay Shah also clarified that Sharma will take the leadership role in the T20 World Cup 2024.
They deserve to go (retire) when they want: Yuvraj Singh
Speaking at an ICC event, Yuvraj expressed his thoughts that if a player gets older there are lot of talks about their age but they forgot about cricketer’s current form. Singh added that both Rohit and Kohli are the great Indian players and they deserve to retire whenever they want.
“As you get older people start talking about your age and they forget about your form,” Yuvraj started. These guys have been great players for India and they deserve to go (retire) when they want,” Yuvraj Singh said to ICC.
The former Indian all-rounder further added that he wants to see more young players in the shortest format. However, he stressed that after this T20 World Cup he would like to see more youngsters in the Indian squad, which will also help them prepare for the next World Cup.
“I would like to see more younger players in the T20 format, because it gets the load off them (experienced players) playing 50-over (ODIs) and Test matches. After this (T20) World Cup I would like to see a lot of younger guys come into the team and make the T20 side for the next World Cup,” Yuvraj Singh further added.
