Virat Kohli was the captain in the last WTC final, which India lost against New Zealand in 2021.

The much-awaited final of the World Test Championship final is just a few days away. It will start on June 7 at the Oval ground between India and Australia. Both teams are sweating hard to prepare themselves for the high-voltage clash. It will be an exciting contest between two top-ranked teams in the test cricket. Australia will feel much better with the conditions in England are similar to those at home. On the other hand, after suffering injuries to key players, India will heavily rely on how big names like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Shubman Gill will perform.

It will be the second chance for the Indians after losing the final of the WTC 2021 against New Zealand in the inaugural edition. Virat Kohli was the captain of the team, and some of the current players were part of that game. It will be a big game for the former Indian captain as he is also in a great form and is coming off two back-to-back IPL centuries. Though the test is a completely different format but former Australian great Greg Chappell feels that the conditions at the Oval will favor the batting style of the former Indian captain.

"Virat Kohli will be a key for India in the WTC Final" - Australian great Greg Chappell

Virat has been the best batter for India in the WTC 2021-23, after Cheteshwar Pujara. He has scored 869 runs in 16 tests at an average of 32.85, with one century and six half-centuries. He recently scored a test hundred against Australia in the fourth and final game of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at home. In an interview on the show "Backstage with Boria" on Revsports, Chappell pointed out how the English bowlers troubled Virat during the 2014 and 2021 tours by bowling outside off.

However, he added that it will be difficult for the Australian bowlers to bowl in the same channel as the English bowlers did against the former Indian captain. The former Australian star also praised Virat and said that his record against Aussies is incredible. He said, "The Oval will suit Virat. You have said to me that the weather has stayed dry so far. If the weather continues to stay dry the Oval is as close to an Australian wicket in England as you will ever get. And that will suit Virat. I think if he is mentally switched on, he will get runs for India. He is a very good player and someone who can make a telling difference."

The recent form of the former Indian captain also indicates how well he is batting at the moment. It's all changed since the 2022 Asia Cup. Since then, he is scoring runs and also scored centuries in all three formats. But the issue India can face will be the form of captain Rohit Sharma. Chappell feels that Rohit needs to trust himself, which will help him score runs.
