[Watch] Virat Kohli yet again edges outside off delivery, gets dismissed for 6 in first IND vs BAN test

Virat Kohli was dismissed by pacer Hasan Mahmud on the opening day of the first IND vs BAN test in Chennai.

Veteran Indian batter Virat Kohli had a disastrous return to test cricket during the first test match against Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on September 19.

Kohli was playing his first test match since January 2024 – he missed the entire five-test home series against England due to the birth of his son – and was dismissed for just six runs while trying to drive a delivery outside the off-stump from Bangladesh speedster Hasan Mahmud.

After winning the toss and electing to bowl first, the Bangladesh bowlers bowled brilliantly, troubling the Indian batters with their tight lines during the first session of day 1 on a red soil pitch at Chepauk. Mahmud took three crucial wickets of Indian skipper Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Kohli (6).

Virat Kohli once again falls prey to an outside off-stump delivery

Indian batter Kohli came out to bat in the eighth over of the first innings after Shubman Gill was dismissed, but didn’t last long himself either and was dismissed a couple of overs later.

On the second delivery of the 10th over, Mahumd dished out a full delivery outside the off-stump. Kohli went after it for a booming drive well away from his body.

However, the ball took the outside edge of Kohli’s bat and Bangladesh wicket-keeper Liton Das took an easy catch. Kohli was dismissed for only six runs. Kohli has gotten out on numerous occasions in a similar fashion. In fact, his problems outside the off-stump dates back to the 2014 tour of England.

At the time of writing, Rishabh Pant (33*) and opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (37*) are rebuilding the innings. India are at 88/3 at lunch.
