Former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman is National Cricket Academy chief since 2021.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that VVS Laxman will continue as National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief.

Former cricketer VVS Laxman has been associated with NCA since 2021. Last month, Laxman also traveled with the Indian cricket team for the tour of Zimbabwe as interim coach.

Earlier, a report in Sports Tak claimed that Laxman is not looking to renew or extend as the NCA head. The report further added that ex-India batting coach Vikram Rathour is the front-runner for replacing Laxman as the new NCA chief.

“It is very likely that you may see Rathour heading NCA. For now, a call on Laxman’s contract renewal is pending but the conversation from his side is not positive,” a report in Sports Tak said.

“Rathour might be asked to take charge at NCA. BCCI secretary (Jay Shah) after the ICC meeting is likely to have a word with VVS to understand his side,” the source added.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah confirms VVS Laxman will continue as NCA head

Amid all the speculations and rumours, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has confirmed that the BCCI will renew Laxman’s contract, whose tenure as the National Cricket Academy head will end in September 2024.

This also means that ex-Indian batting coach Vikram Rathour will not replace Laxman as the new NCA head in Bengaluru.

The 49-year-old Laxman played 134 tests and 86 ODIs for the Indian cricket team. The former cricketer amassed 8781 runs in tests and 2338 runs in ODIs.
