VVS Laxman is currently in New Zealand as stand-in coach of the T20I side.
National Cricket Academy (NCA) chief VVS Laxman shared a heartwarming message for veteran Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja. The legendary trio of Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja announced their T20I retirements after lifting the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 trophy in June.
It was an emotional moment for all the Indian cricket team fans when India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024 trophy on June 29. The Rohit-led side also ended India’s 11-year-long wait to win an ICC title.
After winning the grand finale against South Africa, veteran batter Virat Kohli, who was adjudged Player of the Match for his brilliant 76-run knock, casually announced his T20I retirement during the post-match presentation.
Then, Rohit also announced his international retirement from the shortest format during the post-match press conference on June 29. After Rohit and Kohli, Jadeja also joined them as he announced his T20I retirement on June 30, which marked the end of an era for the Indian side in the shortest format.
Thank you for all the contributions in T20Is: VVS Laxman
Currently, VVS Laxman is with the young Indian squad as stand-in head coach for the ongoing five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The Men in Blue lead the series 2-1, with the fourth T20I to be played on July 13 at the Harare Sports Club in Harare.
Before the fourth T20I against Zimbabwe, Laxman shared a heartwarming message for Rohit, Virat and Jadeja, who have retired from T20Is. Laxman also thanked the legendary trio for contributing over the past one decade in the shortest format.
“My message to these three stalwarts of the game — Virat, Rohit and I consider Ravindra Jadeja also an extremely talented player who has contributed immensely to the development of the Indian cricket team. A big congratulations. Thank you for all the contribution they have given the great game,” Laxman said in a video posted by the BCCI on their social media.
The NCA chief Laxman also believes that the veteran trio of Rohit, Kohli and Jadeja would continue to make contributions in ODI and test cricket for the Indian cricket team.
“They set an example for the youngsters to follow. The passion and the pride with which they played the game is exemplary. While they have retired from this format, I am sure that they will continue to prepare the way they did in their careers. A big congratulations for their excellent T20 career. I am sure they are going to continue to contribute in the longer version of the game,” Laxman said.
