India's tour of West Indies 2023
Watch: Hardik Pandya gets run out in a bizarre way against West Indies in 1st ODI

Hardik Pandya picked 1 wicket and scored 5 runs in India's win against West Indies in the first ODI.
The first ODI game between India and West Indies was played on a challenging track. Though India won it by five wickets with 163 balls to spare, it wasn't an easy chase for them. Chasing a rather small target of 115 runs, India lost their five top-order batters for 97 runs and struggled to find the timing on the slow and turning pitch. In the end, India reached the target in 22.5 overs and made 118/5 to win the game.
Just like the first innings, the spinners troubled the batters in the second innings as well. India started the chase with Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill. India lost Gill with 18 runs on the board. Suryakumar Yadav (19) and Hardik Pandya (5) also got out cheaply. Ravindra Jadeja, who came out to bat at no. 5, remained unbeaten on 16 runs.

The strange thing to see was that Rohit Sharma came to bat at no. 7 and Virat Kohli didn't come to bat at all. India promoted Shardul Thakuar ahead of Rohit, which was surprising to many fans. Though that was not the only strange thing that happened in the first ODI, the dismissal of Hardik Pandya was even weirder. The all-rounder got out on the first ball of the 13th over.
Yannic Cariah bowled a full ball, and Ishan Kishan hit the ball hard towards the bowler. Cariah couldn't hold on to the ball and dropped the straight catch, but he deflected the ball towards the stumps at the bowler's end. The ball hit the stumps, and Hardik Pandya's bat crossed the line, but it was in the air. As a result, he was given out in the most bizarre way possible.
Speaking of the game, India won the toss and put the hosts to bat first. The Indian bowlers started the innings pretty well and troubled the batters. Things were steady until India introduced spin. Kuldeep Yadav took 4/6 in his three overs, while Jadeja picked up 3/37, and India dismissed the hosts for just 114 runs in 23 overs. Both teams will not face each other on Saturday at the same venue.
