Ishan Kishan was confident about Rachin Ravindra edging the ball.
It was a brilliant display of teamwork seen during match No. 29 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 between arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). MI wicket-keeper Ishan Kishan and skipper Hardik Pandya pulled off an impressive DRS call to send back CSK opener Rachin Ravindra at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on April 14.
After opting to field first, hosts MI got a great start as they sent back opener Ajinkya Rahane (5) in the second over. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ravindra guided visitors to 48/1 in six overs. With MI desperately in need of a wicket, Hardik brought their leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal into the attack in the eighth over.
In the fifth ball of the over, Ravindra was trying to play a cut, but he edged it as Kishan took a sharp catch behind the wickets. As soon as Kishan grabbed the ball, he started appealing, but the umpire was unmoved.
Looking at Kishan’s confidence, MI captain Pandya took the DRS. When replays flashed on the big screen, there was a spike on snicko meter when the ball crossed Ravindra’s bat, which turned in MI’s favour as the third umpire changed the decision.
As soon as the umpire changed his on-field decision to ‘out,’ all the MI players started celebrating as they removed dangerous Ravindra and also broke the 52-run partnership with CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad. Ravindra departed after smashing 21 runs off 16 balls including two boundaries and one six.
