Watch: Jonny Bairstow tries to run-out Marnus Labuschagne in Lord's test before getting out in the same manner by Alex Carey
Jonny Bairstow's dismissal has sparked lots of arguments on social media about spirit of cricket.
In what can be called Karma, new video footage has shown that England’s Jonny Bairstow had attempted to run out Australia’s Marnus Labuschagne in the same manner during Lord’s Test before he was dismissed by Alex Carey while leaving his crease on day five.
Jonny Bairstow was dismissed on day five of the Lord’s Test when he wandered out of his crease after ducking under a Cameron Green bouncer which was the last ball of the over as well. However, the umpires hadn’t declared the over completed and the ball remained in the play.
Seeing an opportunity, Alex Carey chucked the ball towards the stumps and managed to hit the timber, catching Bairstow gardening mid-pitch. Australian team appealed in unison and the on-field umpires referred the decision to TV umpire Marais Erasmus, who after watching the replays, deemed Bairstow out.
This led to the Australians copping lots of boos and cheat chants from England crowd at Lord’s despite them winning the match by 43 runs after surviving Ben Stokes’ brutal assault of 155 runs.
New footage shows Jonny Bairstow trying to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne the same way on day 3 of Lord’s Test
However, new video footage shared on social media revealed that Jonny Bairstow, while he was keeping wickets on day three of the Lord’s Test, had tried to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne the same way he got out to Alex Carey.
With Marnus Labuschagne on the crease, Bairstow seems to have aimed a shot at the stumps, hoping to see the Australian batter wander out of his crease after leaving the stumps. While Labuschagne didn't leave his crease immediately after leaving the ball, unlike Bairstow, the England wicket-keeper's throw wasn't on target either.

After the end of the match, Australia skipper Pat Cummins suggested that Bairstow tries to produce such dismissals 'all the time'. Cummins even pointed out a few past instances where the English keeper had done something similar.
"I thought it was fair. You see Jonny does it all the time. He did it on Day One to (David) Warner. He did it in 2019 to Steve (Smith). It's a really common thing for keepers to do if they see a batter keep on leaving their crease,' said the Australia captain.
England, who are now 0-2 down in the five-Test series, will have to win the third Test to stay alive in the five-Test series. The third encounter will be played at the Headingley from July 6 onwards.
